Horā is a word with three senses. (1) The study of the birth chart (SAR 2.2). (2) The D2 varga, half a sign: Parāśara gives the first 15° of an odd sign to the Sun and of an even sign to the Moon. (3) An hour of the day: the almanac’s horā is a twelfth of the daylight or of the night. The first after sunrise belongs to the weekday’s lord, and each next horā to the next graha down the order of their orbits, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury, the Moon (SS 12.78–79).
