Character

A planet gives the full result of a house when it is exactly on that house cusp, no result when it is at a junction, and proportional result when it lies between. Even an exalted or very strong planet gives no result from a junction, and this should be considered in judging periods.

More on this rule

Each planet signifies its own set of matters, the Sun the self and the father, the Moon the mind and the mother, and so on through Ketu. Each house has its own significators as well, the Sun for the first.

More on this rule

From the ascendant one should judge the body, appearance, knowledge, complexion, strength, weakness, character, and disposition.

Each planet has its own bodily form. The Sun is square-bodied and has tawny eyes, the Moon is slender and round, Mars is slender-waisted, Jupiter is large-bodied, Venus has fine eyes and curly hair, and Saturn is lean and long.

More on this rule

What is said of the rising sign is said of the Moon's sign as well. A planet in exaltation brings wealth and praise from kings, in its own sign stable residence and favour, in a friend's sign success through friends, in an enemy's sign dependence and poverty. A combust planet brings loss, a retrograde one the result of exaltation, and a vargottama one the result of its own sign.

More on this rule

The Sun in the ascendant makes the native brave, proud, angry, harsh-eyed, thin-bodied, scant-haired, lazy in action, and cruel. In Aries it makes the eyes defective, in Leo he is night-blind, and in its fall in Libra he is poor and without sons.

More on this rule

Planets placed in their own, friendly or exalted signs, in strong divisions, or in angles and moolatrikonas, give good results in their daśās and antardaśās according to their strength. For the ascendant, body and other houses, benefics increase results and malefics diminish them, while in the 12th, 6th and 8th the reverse is to be judged.

More on this rule

A connection is of five kinds: being in the same sign, mutual conjunction, aspect, residence in an angle, or residence in a trine.

More on this rule

When a planet rules two houses, the result of its moolatrikona sign is chief and the result of its other sign is secondary. In its daśā, the house that comes first is judged in the first half and the other in the latter half.

More on this rule

The ascendant lord joined with the lord of any house and occupying any house gives the result of that house. If that house and its lord are strong there is happiness through it, and if they lack strength there is distress.
